A force of Imperial Fist Space Marines landed on planet Hagia to investigate the rumours of a second relic of their Primarch, Rogal Dorn. The research equipment was already dropped on the planet a few days before. Chaos Lord Brargh sensed the Imperial activity and got heavily interested in the space marine equipment and weaponry. In an effort to get the equipment and weaponry he quickly gathered a force and traveled to Hagia.....
Setup:
Army A :
Brargh's Chaos Marine Force
Army B :
Master of the Forge's battalion
Mission type: Seize Ground
Deployment: Pitched Battle
Player A has the best role on the D6. He chooses a side, decides to start and must start declaring the first counter. After both players declared the objectives, player A starts with deploying his Landraider and his two Rhinos. It's a Pichted Battle so only 1 HQ and 2 Troops may be deployed to begin with. The rest comes into play at start of turn 1.
Player B deploys his 2 Rhinos and his HQ, Master of the Forge. He decides to put his Vanguard Veterans and his Terminators into reserve. Both units have the Deep Strike special rule so that could be a tactical advance.
Battle:
Turn 1: Death of the Master
Eager to get to the first crate the Master of the Forge got into sight of the Obliterators just entering the battlefield. The Obliterators immediately fired their weapons at full strength killing the Master.
Backed up by 2 Defilers the Chaos Rhinos move forward in the direction of the Imperial forces. The Chaos Landraider manages to destroy an Imperial Rhino killing a Space Marine inside. The Imperial forces returned fire but only do damage to one of the Rhinos, destroying a weapon.
Turn 2: First close combat
The chaos army moves forward. Hatches of the Landraider have opened and the Chaos Terminators charge out of it. On the other side of the battlefield Plague Marines disembark and damage the Dreadnought. The Obliterators move more slowly but manage to immobilize an Imperial Rhino. One of the defiler got sight of the Imperial Devestators and fires his Battle Cannon killed 3 of them. Meanwhile the Chaos Terminators reached the Space Marines and almost whip out the complete Tactical Squad. Only the Sergeant and one other marine manage live and escape the massacre.
Within short notice the Imperial Terminators arrive to the battlefield as do the Vanguard Venterans. With the Plague Marines in sight the Dreadnought makes an assault while the other kills a Chaos Terminator with it's Lascannon.
Turn 3: Death of the Chaos Lord
Again the Chaos forces press on forward, lining up to fire their weapons. The Obliterators kill the Vanguard Veterans. Both the Defilers use their cannons and kill 2 Space Marines and destroy an Imperial Dreadnought. After successful shooting the Chaos Lord and his Chaos Terminators charge into the Imperial Terminators but fail miserably. As a result the two remaining Choas Terminators die and the Choas Lord is wounded.
Imperial Devastators and the remaining marine from the Tactical Squad destroy the Chaos Rhino kill one Plague Marine inside. Chaos Lord is killed by the Imperial Terminators.
Turn 4: Chaos forces press on
The Chaos forces hardly move forward. The Obliterators and a Defiler have Tactical Marines in sight and kill six of them with their plasma guns and battle cannon. The second Defiler quickly moves forward to get into close combat with the dreadnought. Both the metal machines hit each other without any effect.
The Imperial Marines and Terminators shoot with all they have but only manage to kill 3 plague Marines.
Turn 5: The End
The Chaos force is heading for the final blow in the battle. Two remaining Tactical Marines are killed by the fire of three Obliterators. A Terminator dies by a Lascannon shot from the Chaos Landraider. The Defiler hits the Dreadnought so hard it explodes. Meanwhile the Imperial Terminators use their storm bolters to kill two Plague Marines and mangaer to kill another three in close combat.
It's a draw!
At the end of turn 5 a D6 is rolled to see if the battle continues. A 1 is rolled so the battle ends. At the beginning of turn 3 it still looked bad for the Imperial Fist Space Marines but thank to sheer luck and failure of the Chaos Lord the games ends in a draw. Both armies did not manage to occupy a crate without the enemy nearby.
